Individual Therapy
Whether you are feeling unlike yourself, or you are unsure of the direction you are going, individual therapy is an excellent way to work on you in a safe space. When you give yourself the gift of being in a therapeutic relationship you are able to explore aspects of yourself you might not feel safe exploring otherwise. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, unsettled or going through a rough patch, therapy is a place to problem solve conflicts of the past, present and future, figuring how to handle a situation when it arises again. It is a place to be heard without judgement and to write your own story. As your therapist I am here to guide you in your journey. I am an avid ally, accepting of any types of relationships you are in, including individuals of the LGBT+ community.
Parent, Family and Child Therapy
Becoming a parent can be a time of great joy as well as a time of great stress. The life changes in becoming a parent can bring about unexpected, intense feelings. Whether you are a new or seasoned parent, a parent of a typically developing child or one that is neurodivergent, therapy can alleviate the mental load that comes with becoming a parent.
If you are concerned about your child, seeking therapy is an excellent way to give them a safe place to delve into their emotions in a developmentally appropriate setting. Whether the therapy focuses on different ways to parent a small child, or a place for your teen to express their emotions to a safe adult, therapy can greatly benefit long term psychological health.
Adolescence and the tween and teen years can be rocky for some youth. Pressure to meet expectations of peers, family and society greatly impact the mental health of these kids and many are unequipped to handle them on their own. Therapy can provide a place to explore and learn tools to be successful in all areas of their lives.
Family challenges does not end once the children have grown up. Sometimes it is difficult for parents and their children to adjust to both being adults. Therapy is a safe space to work through patterns that have stuck around long enough. Therapy can help a parent and an adult child take their relationship to the next level of intimacy and understanding.
Parents and families can look different. Whether you and your partner(s) follow a more traditional path or one that doesn’t conform to what society deems ‘typical’, therapy can still be a tool to help you grow. This is a safe space for all types of relationships, including those from the LGBT+ community.
Special Needs
My expertise is in working with parents who have children with extra needs. I have extensive experience in working with special needs children, in particular autistic children, children with ADHD and others with behavioral issues. I have the background to help you or your family members of any age navigate the nonsensical rules of our societies social norms. I have played many different roles in working with the ND community and I have a diverse background in how to work with all types of people, and am well equipped to help you and your family become a more cohesive unit.
My approach to therapy…
I believe there is no one way to treat a person, as we are all individuals and respond differently to different types of therapy. Depending on your goals, we will work together to achieve them as the therapy progresses. I will draw from different treatment types, such as a humanistic approach, cognitive behavioral approach or perhaps a more attachment based approach is more fitting. It all depends on what works best with your current goals and what feels most comfortable for you.
